Repetitions, the Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center Women's Auxiliary thrift shop seeks donations of seasonal clothing, housewares, linens, costumes jewelry, shoes, boots, lingerie and other useful items. Items may be dropped off at the shop, at 140 Woodland St., Wed. - Fri. 10am - 4pm. 714-4125.

Monthly
Vegetarian potluck dinners, social events, speakers on a wide variety of health-related topics, and exchange of ideas. Meetings take place on the first Friday of most months. Meeting the following Friday, if the meeting falls on date of major holiday. Please bring a dish that serves 6-8 people with no meat or fish products included in the ingredients. Sunday, October 4
Dozynki-the Polish Harvest Festival from 12:30pm to 5:30pm on Church grounds of Cyril and Methodius Church, 55 Charter Oak Ave., Hartford. Free. Pot-luck picnic will be held in the church hall and outside, dancing and brief program also. Wreath will be presented by the children in native costume. Bring Pot-luck item to join in the festivities. Picnic begins at 1:30pm. Info at 522-9157.

Sunday, October 4
Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk in Hartford's Bushnell Park. Registration starts at 9am and the 5k walk starts at 10am. Walkers should gather in Bushnell Park near the Pump House Gallery where they will be entertained by the "Friends of Roland" band and "Uproar!" a quartet from the Sweet Adelines of the Farmington Valley. Clowns, face painting and presentation. Carousel will be open for children of all ages to ride. Walkers encouraged to obtain pledges and bring to site. L.W. Batchelder School Dedication Ceremony Open House from 6:30-8pm at L.W. Batchelder School, 757 New Britain Avenue. A celebration of the completion of its building renovations with a gala dedication ceremony. Open House features a blessing of the building and grounds, and speeches from local dignitaries. Open to the public and former students and staff.

Are You Ready to Take the Challenge? The Fourth Annual Mountain Laurel Challenge to benefit the Rehabilitation Hospital of CT. 5K event a competition for runners and wheelchair athletes of all ages and abilities. Held on a TAC certified course on the grounds of CIGNA in Bloomfield. Registration is 9:30am. Race begins at 10:30am. Entry fee is $12 ($15 on day of race). T-shirts to first 150 registrants. Playground Construction to take place at 79 van Block Avenue for the many children and families of the Sheldon Charter Oak Neighborhood of Hartford. Volunteers from throughout the Hartford community needed to serve food, donate construction materials, and help assemble the actual playground. To volunteer or for more info call Maura McCall at 246-0666. Come be part of the fun! Construction will take place all day, and there will be a recognition celebration at noon.
