Town InformationThe town of Sharon, with a population of 2,940 is located in the Northwestern corner of Connecticut bordering New York state and created from lands of colony Connecticut. Settlement began in 1738 and the town was incorporated in 1739. With more than 49% of its area (60.3 sq.miles) forested, the town is characterized by its quiet, semi-rural atmosphere and a determination to preserve it. Its features include a picturesque village green and the Sharon Creative Arts Foundation with its Sharon (summer) Playhouse. Although, the emphasis has always been on agriculture and dairy, during colonial times and early 19th Century, Sharon boasted some light manufacturing, particularly iron products.
