Town InformationThe town of Essex in southeast Connecticut on the estuary of the Connecticut River, covers 12.2 square miles and is the home to some 5,890 residents. The town was first settled by residents of Old Saybrook in 1690. Given its present name in 1820, the town was incorporated in 1852 on land from Old Saybrook.
