Town InformationThe town of Waterford in southeast Connecticut on the Long Island Sound at the mouth of the Niantic River, covers 36.7 square miles and is home to some 18,000 residents. The town was first settled in 1653 and was incorporated from New London in 1801. In 1839 present-day East Lyme was set off from Waterford. The town maintains several beaches and marine facilities for both fresh and salt water. It is the location of the Eugene O'Neill Theater and Harkness State Park.
